Life is a journey full of twists and turns, hills and valleys...every unique moment yielding to another. What is often most disconcerting about this reality is that many times it is difficult to see or know what lies around the bend. Maybe we are traversing the terrain in the dark and our way is only delicately lit by the moon...maybe we are road weary and cannot focus...maybe the path cuts back so sharply that it is completely obscured from view...maybe the way simply does not exist yet as we have been chosen to forge ahead and leave footsteps for others. However, while we may not be able to always SEE whether or not a major shift in scenery is about to occur, the truth is we can usually SENSE it.
Life has a funny way of letting us know that change is coming. Whether that change is good, bad, exciting, catastrophic, evolutionary, or transformative...as it draws closer to introducing itself we begin to experience deep rumblings in our spirit...whispering to us like faint lullabies drifting on the breeze. These rumblings are the beginning stages of our understanding...the simple awareness that change is eminent. It is what we do next that determines how well we will transition from one phase of our journey to the other. We have two choices. We can play dumb and ignore or resist the signs which indicate that our reality is changing or we can have the courage to submit to it and be our best selves as we navigate uncharted territory.
By the way, did I mention that this is easier said than done? After all, these shifts in awareness don't always unfold gradually like the changing of the seasons...we are not always shaped in a slow erosive pattern. Many times, these shifts occur like a hurricane rolling in off the ocean...pulling up and removing once permanent objects on it's way through...leaving us 48 hours later with a landscape we don't even recognize. Sometimes our illusions are stripped away in a moment, leaving us completely bewildered and disoriented. BUT...if we pay attention to our gut instincts, our intuition, our inner voice...if we monitor what rises to the surface when we seek our own company...we can have a better understanding of what is around the bend, even before we see it.
