We've all been there...Monday rolls around and we open our eyes to yet another week of the same ol', same ol'. We put our feet on the floor and start performing our daily rituals...fumbling through our routines and connecting the dots to the next step of what has become "going through the motions" of our lives. While we have all experienced this black hole of monotony at some point, many of us have never found a way out.
Sure...it happens. We may find that the person we once were totally enchanted by no longer makes us feel butterflies...we may realize a dream that once held our full hope and desire no longer feels so compelling...we may find the passion that once coursed through our veins has been diluted...we may find we have become numb to the beauty of our human experience...we may become burdened by our responsibilities and submit to being simply a "workhorse". One or all of these feelings may visit us during our journey...the question is, how do we break ourselves of the cycle of simply "going through the motions" and learn how to re-engage our mind, body, spirit and senses?
"Going through the motions", as a general way of living, can be a self-perpetuating cycle if we do not make a conscious effort to jump off the merry go-round of apathy. The first step is to remind ourselves we are a FACTOR in our own lives...that we do not have to be passive in this cycle, we can be a catalyst for change...that we can deputize ourselves as the trustee of our own experience. Upon doing so, we must then take action. INVESTIGATE. Why are we so de-motivated, un-moved and uninspired? If we revisit a time when we WERE enchanted by our mate, jazzed about our career or pumped about Monday mornings...we might start finding some answers. What was different then...what dynamics shifted...what was present then that is missing now? When we discover the elements that make us feel engaged and excited about our experiences as opposed to "going through the motions", we can then make it our priority to reintegrate these elements back into our lives. There is no Fairy Godmother that is going to come sprinkle "Anti-rut" dust on us...we must be our own Fairy Godmother and start shooting sparks back into our own lives.
