Here's something cracks me up about us as people...the fact that we can behave badly, be totally irresponsible across the board, exercise flagrant inconsideration, be selfish, lazy and integrity-less and then have the audacity to be amazed or bewildered when we face the consequences of this line of living. What planet are we on, for God's sake? What in the world are we thinking? Do we honestly believe that we are going to stuff our mattress full of rocks and then get the luxury of sleeping in someone else's bed who took the time and effort to fill theirs with stable, comfortable, lasting material? Where did our sense of entitlement come from? Who gave us the authority to disconnect our actions from the accountability to the consequences?
Seriously! Let's talk straight for a second. For example, married person...if you have been stepping out on your spouse and carrying on an affair, that is "making your bed". So, when the shit hits the fan, no crying for you. You don't get the right to complain or moan and groan about a darn thing. You don't get to act as if you have been blind-sided or that the rug is being pulled out from under you. Example number 2, if you would rather spend money on eating out, buying clothes, partying and splurging, that's cool, but don't complain when an unexpected expense arises and you have zero dollars to pay for it. YOU made the decisions that lead to those results...why are you surprised?
A LOT of the negative experiences we encounter in our lives can be avoided by thinking about what kinds of seeds we are planting BEFORE we plant them. Yes...living in the NOW is important, yet that does not mean we are supposed to do things in the now with utter disregard for how those actions will affect our future environment. We make our bed every day by the ways in which we CHOOSE to live. We own that...it comes from us. If, then, we come to face a piece of music that is painful to bear, we have no one to look at but ourselves. Remember that you make your own bed...so don't make one that you don't want to lie in, because that is the only one you get.
